GPS2026 will focus on five distinct areas to address some of the most pressing global issues impacting global prosperity:
Keynote Address: China’s Global Governance Initiative
Panel 1: Innovative Drug Development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area
In recent years, China has made leaps and bounds in the field of drug development, achieving biomedical breakthroughs to serve the shared future of mankind. Against this backdrop, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has deepened its cooperation with cities in the Greater Bay Area (“GBA”), advancing innovations in the biopharmaceutical section to contribute solutions to global health challenges and benefit patients worldwide. This collaborative effort is embodied by initiatives adopted since 2024 through the establishment of the GBA International Clinical Trial Institute in the Hetao area, which leverages the GBA’s population of over 86 million to conduct clinical trials. With such measures in place, the GBA is rapidly emerging as a powerhouse of biomedical innovation, combining cutting-edge research, world-class talent, and robust manufacturing capabilities. With an eye to developing the GBA’s potential to become a global leader in drug development, this panel brings together industry pioneers, academic experts, and regulatory leaders to explore how the region can help advance global health goals to create a health and wellness community for mankind.
Panel 2: Hong Kong as a Sports, Cultural, and Recreational Hub
Hong Kong is a dynamic global city, renowned for its vibrant blend of East-meets-West culture, world-class mega events, and thriving sports scene. From the city’s homegrown Olympic champions to its rich history of horse racing to its artistic virtuosos, Hong Kong has demonstrated its vast potential to become a leading hub for international competitions and cultural exchange. This panel will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, and visionaries to explore how Hong Kong can further elevate its status as a premier destination for sports, culture, and recreation, thereby attracting and connecting talents from far and wide to see what the city has to offer.
Panel 3: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly in the Crypto World
With the enactment of the Stablecoins Ordinance in Hong Kong and the GENIUS Act in the United States, the global race to formulate a digital assets strategy is well underway. Yet, as with any frontier market, the crypto landscape reveals a multifaceted picture: the good of unprecedented financial inclusion and efficiency, the bad of market volatility and infrastructure growing pains, and the ugly of regulatory uncertainty and malicious actors. As the global financial landscape continues to evolve and digital assets become embedded into the infrastructure, this panel will bring together fintech pioneers, regulators, and investment leaders to explore what can be done to balance the opportunities and challenges of this new financial frontier.
Panel 4: International Trade in a Changing World Order
Since US President Donald Trump retook office and subsequently unleashed a bevy of tariffs on American trading partners in 2025, the rules-based international order, with free trade as one of its key pillars, has ruptured. Many of the US’ trading partners have been forced to open their markets to American goods, while their own products face steep barriers to American consumers. One year after this seismic change, this panel will bring together business leaders, trade experts, and policymakers to discuss how global trade flows have shifted, what it means for manufacturing hubs and supply chains around the world, and whether a return to the multilateral rules-based trading system is still possible, or if a new one is needed.
Panel 5 : Hong Kong as a Facilitator of Aerospace Development
In line with China’s 15th Five-year Plan, Hong Kong is emerging as a strategic launch pad for China’s fast-growing new space economy. Renowned for its strengths in scientific research, Hong Kong is collaborating with central authorities to develop “the Hong Kong Operation Robot - A Multifunctional Lunar Surface and Mobile Charging System” for the Chang’E-8 mission. Leveraging Hong Kong’s strong rule of law, global connectivity, scientific and service capabilities, Hong Kong’s academic, business and science communities stand ready to help China’s budding aerospace companies grow faster and go global. Building on GPS 2025’s fruitful discussions at the Panel on “The Promise of Space – Breakthroughs and Potential”, this panel reports back on the latest space innovations and continues discussions on the unique role Hong Kong can play in jump starting the new space economy.
