PROGRAMME
GPS 24 will focus on five distinct areas to address some of the most pressing global issues impacting global prosperity:
1. Globalisation and De-globalisation
As countries seek to pursue supply chain diversification in the name of homeland economic safety, the collateral impact on economic growth remains unknown, placing global economic development at risk.
2. Science and Technological Co-operation and the Future of Mankind
As humanity continues to struggle with global challenges that cannot be solved by individual governments and communities working alone, promoting scientific and technological cooperation is vital to developing sustainable and innovative solutions for future generations.
3. Great Power Competition and Peaceful Co-existence
The resurgence of great power competition in global politics has led to concern that major state actors are spiraling down the “Thucydides trap”. The management of the conflicts and tensions in their relationships will be critical to mitigating the risks of great power collision.
4. Risks of Pan-securitisation and the Impact on Development
The increasing emphasis on national security in national policy has been taking a toll on business and investments, as discussions on “de-risking” versus “de-coupling” threaten to impact global prosperity.
5. Climate Change and Sustainable Development
The intensifying effects of climate change have highlighted the urgent need for co-operation between states to save the planet and foster sustainable development for the generations to come.
